EXPERIENCE AS AN INDEPENDENT ARBITRATOR AND COUNSEL

Isabel has 20 years of experience in the field of international arbitration.

As independent arbitrator, Isabel has served in different capacities in a variety of commercial disputes. She brings her two decades of experience as counsel in a leading international arbitration law firm to her independent arbitrator practice. She is efficient and detail oriented. She understands the importance of being prepared and learning the case in depth.

As counsel, Isabel’s practice covers every stage of an international dispute, from drafting arbitration agreements and providing pre-dispute advice, to representing parties in arbitration proceedings and counseling clients through the final phases of award recognition, enforcement, and set-aside. Isabel has significant experience negotiating settlement agreements for international disputes.

  • Co-arbitrator in ICDR/AAA commercial dispute relating to Latin America seated in Miami, Florida law governing.
  • Co- arbitrator in ICDR/AAA commercial dispute in the United States, seated in New York, New York law governing.
  • Represented US major oil company in AAA arbitration against Chinese counterparty for breach of contract.
  • Represented US major manufacturing company in a Miami-seated commercial arbitration under IACAC rules against a Mexican counterparty. US law governing.
  • Represented transportation company in Singapore-seated contractual dispute under Philippine law against Government of the Philippines.
  • Represented  Unión Fenosa Gas in ICSID arbitration against the Arab Republic of Egypt involving to treaty violations relating to the failure to supply gas under a long-term gas supply agreement.
  • Represented Unión Fenosa Gas in two related breach-of-contract claims against EGAS in CRCICA commercial arbitrations relating to a long-term gas supply contract.
  • Represented Chevron Corporation in a treaty arbitration (UNCITRAL) against the Republic of Ecuador seated in The Hague related to undue delays by Ecuadorian courts.
  • Represented Chevron Corporation in a treaty and contract arbitration against the Republic of Ecuador seated in The Hague concerning denial of justice and other treaty and contractual (Ecuadorian law) violations relating the US$9 billion environmental judgment issued by the Ecuadorian courts in Lago Agrio, Ecuador.
  • Represented The Renco Group in parallel contractual (Peruvian law) and treaty claims in UNCITRAL arbitration seated in Paris against Activos Mineros and the Republic of Peru.
  • Represented Danish company in treaty arbitration before ICSID against Government of Algeria.
  • Represented Noble Energy and MachalaPower in parallel treaty and commercial arbitrations before ICSID against the Government of Ecuador.
